How to Bake a Cake for Your Dog

This is Mia. She's a fox red Labrador and she turned a year old last week. To celebrate this, like I would for a friend or family's birthday, I baked her a cake and got her presents. Because that's not weird at all.

After much careful research I collaborated a few recipes to create the ultimate doggy birthday cake - made primarily from peanut butter, honey, and carrots. It's 100% safe, just don't let your dog eat the whole thing!

What you will need:

  • 1 large carrot, grated
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 55 ml honey
  • 130 g white or wheat flour
  • 70 g all natural peanut butter plus extra for icing
  • A few drops of vanilla extract (optional)
  • 60 ml vegetable oil

Method:

Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Whisk together the egg, oil, baking soda, honey and vanilla. Then, add the sifted flour and mix well. Lastly, stir in the carrot and pour into a greased, loose bottomed cake tin. Bake for 15 - 20 mins, until the top turns golden brown. I recommend you do a skewer test to see if the middle is cooked through.

Leave to cool for 15 mins and spread across some peanut butter whilst the cake is still warm, so it melts and spreads evenly. Then serve a generous slice! Mia is all about carrots and peanut butter.

Your dog will think you are the coolest human ever. Others may generally give you a wide berth.
