Because Wine

Me, in my element at South Coast Winery in California (my fave vineyard)
As an avid but mildly responsible wine consumer, I have come to favour particular brands and stick to wines that you just can't go wrong with. Although I used to love white wine (oh how I miss you, we had some good times) I find that now I am older, it tends to affect me a lot more and lends itself to terrible hangovers and undesired anxiety (even after 2 glasses).

As a rule of thumb, I would rather not have any wine at all, than drink Rose and Chardonnay. No thanks.

Here are some absolute gems that you can pick up at the supermarkets.

Red:

  1. Sancerre Pinto Noir - A beautiful french wine produced in the area of Sancerre (one of the best), it's light and fruity with hints of strawberries and violet. Buy it here
  2. Wairau Cove Pinot Noir - Another light but flavoursome wine, dangerously easy to drink. I buy this one regularly Buy it here
  3. Chianti - This is a great Italian Chianti. A nice wine to enjoy when you're in the mood for something a little heavier. Goes amazingly well with pasta and steak dishes. Buy it here
  4. Chateauneuf Du Pape - one of my all time favourites. Expensive but absolutely divine. Buy it here

White:
  1. Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc- I just LOVE Sauvignon Blanc's from Marlborough, New Zealand. This one is really crisp and light and oh so good. Buy it here
  2. Brancott Estate Pinot Grigio- Very easy to drink, tastes like peaches and nectarines. Buy it here
  3. Brancott Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc - This one is my achilles heal. Super fresh and crisp, tastes like grapefruit and gooseberries. Buy it here
  4. Les Cailllottes Sancerre - Delicious citrus wine, similar to a Sauvignon Blanc but a little richer. Buy it here

Vineyards:

I highly recommend South Coast Winery in California, it is continually voted one of the best in the country and the vineyard tours (as well as the spa, rooms and restaurant) are just fantastic. It's based in Temecula, where my lovely sister-in-law is from, and since it's inland, the climate is much hotter than on the coast. Here are some photos that don't do it justice!

And since we're fast approaching December... the best mulled wine that never fails to impress is M&S's own brand. It's only £5.00 and tastes like Christmas. Buy it, by the caseload here
